Warriors, Celtics Start the Season the Way Everyone Expected

It may be a new day in the NBA, but it sure looks like every other day the league's seen during the past few seasons.

Golden State is still the overall favorite, and the now-LeBronless Eastern Conference sees a perennial frontrunner in position to make another run.

If there's a difference other than that, unlike last season, it's that those frontrunners are healthy.

The Warriors somehow reloaded by adding a booster rocket or two. As a result, it's odds-on the Dubs will have an 82-game pre-season before they have to get serious.

Dudes may see a challenge from Houston again, but those Rockets may need to diversify their offensive duties more than last year. Talk about tanking a season's worth of work ...

The Dubs' first order of business, of course, was getting their bling.

This year, a clever new twist was added:

What with these being their third rings in four seasons, dudes had a whole new reason to be fascinated by them:

The concept of inserting lotsa gold into a uniform livery on the Opening Day after winning a title started in the MLB back in 2004.

Can't wait until this trend makes it to beach volleyball.

Another day.

This was a time for still waters to run deep, as in a dinged-up Russell Westbrook stewing in street clothes while his teammates did a decent job of keeping the night entertaining in the Dubs' 108-100 victory:

Earlier in the day, Boston got the best of Philadelphia's 76ers, who should be challenging them all season for top billing next spring.

The Celtics' 105-87 victory looked like a solid hint of things to come:

What with the Red Sox on a post-season run, the Patriots being the Patriots, and the Bruins off to a promising start after wetting the bed in DC on Opening Night, the Celtics could do their part in making Boston fans some of the most bestowed in the nation.

Assuming they stay in one piece this time.
