The Shot Dude: Happy New Year
Happy New Year from your favorite Shot Dude!
I sincerely hope this year brings you everything you're hoping for, including your biggest fantasy win.
There's no fancy theme or shot chart examination; just some solid NBA recommendations to help you build a winning lineup, and I resolve to give you great players and the target score they need to make value tonight.
There are five games you can research by using the Bovada data tool on our Home page:
The nice folks at FanDuel have your covered with many game choices, so what are you waiting for?
Jordan Clarkson, Los Angeles Lakers ($5900) ... will need just under 30 points to make fantasy value. Dude's hit that threshold with at least 29 fantasy points in 3 of his last 6. Clarkson has a great chance to achieve this again, as he's played at least 30 minutes in 8 of his last 9 games. Also, tonight's opponent -- Philadelphia -- ranks 18th in defense against point guards this season.
Ish Smith, Philadelphia ($5800) ... has just about the same fantasy target as Clarkson, and it should be fun to watch these two point guards go at each other on the same court. Dude surpassed 40 fantasy points in two straight games after not only being traded to
purgatory the 76ers, but supplanting himself as the top ball-handler with over 30 minutes logged in three straight. The Lakers are last in the league in defending point guards.
DeMar DeRozen, Toronto ($8400) ... will be a very popular fantasy pick tonight, despite his high salary, due to his outstanding performance last game against the Wizards. Dude registered almost 54 fantasy points in that game and has had at least 42 in 4 of his last 7, which just happens to be his fantasy target. Tonight's foe, Charlotte, ranks 22nd in their defense of opposing shooting guards.
Evan Fournier, Orlando ($5600) ... is not only on fire right now by scoring 29 or more fantasy points in 5 of his last 6 games, but needs just 28 tonight to reach value. This correlates directly with the minutes increase he's seen, with at least 32 in all six of those games. Dude gets to face Washington, and there are only three NBA teams who defend shooting guards worse.
Carmelo Anthony, New York ($8600) ... has the highest value to reach of all the dudes here, with 43 tonight against the Bulls. When these two teams played just two weeks ago, dude scored 27 points and grabbed 7 boards, but just missed fantasy value. I think Anthony gets there tonight. Chicago ranks just 21st in defending small forwards, and he's tallied at least 39 fantasy points in 6 of 9.
Otto Porter, Washington ($6000) ... has a fantasy target of 30 points tonight, which he's surpassed in his last two games with ease. Since coming back from injury and re-joining the starting lineup, dude's played at least 33 minutes a game. He's playing on home court in a game with the second-highest total of 205 against a team that's merely average at defending small forwards. What's not to like?
Chris Bosh, Miami ($7500) ... is my favorite play today because of his potential to far exceed his 38 point fantasy value. Dude has at least 43 fantasy points in 3 of his last 4 games. The only recent time Bosh didn't reach fantasy value was against Memphis, regarded as one of the NBA's toughest defensive foes. Tonight's game against Dallas has only a three-point spread, and Mavericks are 26th in defending opposing power forwards.
Julius Randle, Los Angeles Lakers ($5700) ... has registered 13 double-doubles this season and has a prime chance to get another tonight against the 76ers. With a fantasy value of 29 to hit tonight, dude seems odds-on; he just surpassed this plateau in his last game against Boston, and the 76ers rank second to last in defense against power forwards.
Jahlil Okafor, Philadelphia ($6200) ... should be back in the starting lineup for the 76ers tonight against the Lakers. Playing starter minutes should insure dude will reach his fantasy value target of 31. Okafor has made fantasy value in 4 of the last 6 games where he's seen at least 30 minutes. This game has the highest total of the day at 206, and the Lakers currently slot in as the fifth-worst team against visiting centers.
Start this new year out right by scoring yourself some fantasy cash tonight.
