Mavs' Nowitzki Says He'll Take Pay Cut to Attract Paul or Howard

Dirk Nowitzki wants another NBA Championship, and the Dallas Mavericks star says he is willing to sacrifice to do it.

The former league MVP told a Dallas radio station that he's willing to take a pay cut to get the likes of Dwight Howard of the Los Angeles Lakers or Chris Paul of the Los Angeles Clippers, who are both free agents, to the Mavs.

“If we don’t get the two monsters then we got to find another way,” Nowitzki said, “Through sign-and-trades or other free agents that are out there.”

It was just two short years ago that the Mavericks defeated the Miami Heat for the their first and only NBA Championship. Two years later, the Mavs missed the playoffs and Nowitzki is not having it.

He knows, just like Kobe, the door is about to close on the Mavs winning another championship during his career, and he is so desperate for another ring, he'd even take on Dwight Howard just to get it.

Now, that's desperate.

“It’s time to take a step forward and again be a threat in the playoffs,” Nowitzki said.

When asked which player he'd rather have, Nowitzki was very diplomatic about it and said that he'd be happy with either one (but you know in private he wants Paul). However, the question for Paul and Howard would be if they'd even consider the possibility of playing in Dallas.

As of right now, the answer is no.
