Good Night and Good Chuck: 37 Field Goal Attempts Not Quite Enough for Raptors' Rudy Gay

Rudy Gay took 37 shots in Monday night's double OT tilt against the Rockets.

He made 11.

It tied the Raptors' franchise record for field goal attempts (Vince Carter, even in his all-world chucking prime, never hoisted up that many Spaldings). It featured more misses than LeBron James' total attempts in any game so far this season. It was the worst case of rim diarrhea since that long-forgotten dud Michael Jordan exploded for 29 points on 39 shots in 1997.

After a few days reflection, how does Gay feel about the hoist-and-hope-fest?

"He's disappointed," confided Toronto's shooting coach, Watt Conscience. "He felt with a few more tosses at the tin, he might've gotten into a better rhythm."

"Guys like Rudy - they really need forty-plus shots a night to feel comfortable."

So the criticism he received from fans and media was unwarranted?

"Some of it was fair. The people saying he lacked assertiveness; I think that was fair. I'm not sure what the '#sarcasm' bit at the end of each comment was about, though."

Is there a fear that his me-first mentality might make teammates unhappy?

"Teammates? What are they?"

They're the other players on court.

"Oh, like the Rockets on Monday."

No, the ones with Gay. Wearing the same uniform. Looking sad and resigned.

"Nope ... Still not ringing a bell."

The Raps next game is Sunday versus Portland at the Air Canada Centre. Apparently, Gay is already 0-6 in the contest.
