Still Swinging: Rory McIlroy Calls Off Engagement after Tiger Woods' Marriage Advice

With the wedding to tennis babe Caroline Wozniacki all teed up and ready to be Big Bertha'd down the fairway of forever, Rory McIlroy disqualified himself Wednesday to head back to the practice range.

Sounding more heartbroken than John Daly with an empty Diet Coke can, the two-time major victor went into spin control prior to this week's BMW PGA Championship:

The sad-face presser followed an earlier statement in which McIlroy wore the blame for the bust-up:

"The problem is mine. The wedding invitations issued at the weekend made me realize that I wasn't ready for all that marriage entails. I wish Caroline all the happiness she deserves and thank her for the great times we've had. I will not be saying anything more about our relationship in any setting."

While this seems a cut-and-dried case of cold cleats, our exclusive insider indicates some choice words of advice from Tiger Woods may have been behind the hook.

"He told Rory that marriage is sacred," said our source -- a blonde, attractive Scandinavian who wished only to be identified as 'Elaine Snortgreen'. "It should be approached with an appropriate level of seriousness and sobriety ... And a restraining order."

"He also said to keep the nine iron out of the bag at all times. I'm not sure if that was literal instruction or a euphemism."

"Soon after, Rory pulled the pin."

The BMW PGA Championship swings into action Thursday. McIlroy, we suspect, may do the same soon after.
